IMPACT: Science-driven Economy

The portfolio is designed to invest into, and thereby fund* the innovation economy. It is a long-term impact investing strategy aimed at generating both a financial return, and a non-financial impact by supporting companies that are creating innovative solutions to global challenges. Portfolio companies rely on capital markets to finance new productive Research & Development-driven activities, instead of redistributing existing assets to shareholders (for instance, via share buybacks). The quality of R&D undertaken by portfolio companies is evaluated through Big Data analysis of scientific publications. With this approach, companies creating added value and positive impact via world-class science & technology are selected into the portfolio. *While buying securities in secondary markets is not the same as giving the money to companies, if a company’s share price is driven higher, this translates to lower cost of capital for this company, in case it chooses to issue new equity or debt.
