Hottest Stocks in CW 18/25

The DAX has gained a strong 6 % within one trading week. This made up for the dip in share prices since US President Donald Trump's announcement of “Liberation Day” in the US with massive tariff packages. The overseas indices show a similar picture: the Nasdaq 100, for example, recovered by almost 8 % over the week. We take a look at which stocks have been traded particularly heavily on wikifolio recently in this volatile market environment and why.

Fear of Missing Out with BYD

# Name Performance 7 days
1 Xiaomi 15,42%
2 BYD 12,07%
3 Novo Nordisk 6,41%
4 Prysmian 9,78%
5 CrowdStrike Holdings 12,98%

The Chinese e-car manufacturer BYD has had a strong start this year. Net profit doubled to 9.2 billion yuan in Q1. Although turnover remained slightly below expectations, it increased by a solid 36.4 % to 170.4 billion yuan, thanks to good sales figures in China and rising exports.

"With 1 million vehicles sold (+58 % YoY), including 986,098 electric cars, BYD is consolidating its position as the world's largest e-car manufacturer. The international expansion in particular is having an impact - foreign sales have more than doubled, reducing dependence on the saturated domestic market," analyzes wikifolio trader Frank Hinze. His conclusion: "In the long term, BYD remains a structural winner of the electromobility turnaround, supported by technology leadership - for example in the blade battery - and economies of scale. For investors with a medium to long-term horizon, the current share price could be attractive despite the recent rally, especially if the international expansion continues to gain momentum. However, short-term setbacks after the strong rise are likely and should be used to build up positions."

Wolfhard Nico Schulze has been betting on BYD since Tuesday last week using call warrants in his wikifolio Trendaktien Power: “BYD can even benefit from the tariff crisis, the share is showing relative strength,” he says. However, Schulze and Hinze are not the only traders who apparently still see potential here. The trading sentiment shows the consistently very positive sentiment of wikifolio traders for the BYD share.

Buying the Dip with Frequentis

# Name Performance 7 days
1 Energy Fuels -8,61%
2 Frequentis -5,17%
3 CRESUD (ADR) -5,96%
4 Arafura Resources -7,19%
5 NioCorp Developments -5,01%

Frequentis in Austria is currently performing just as well as BYD in China. Although there was profit-taking in the last trading week, the share is still up 43 % YTD. However, Frequentis has little to do with e-cars. The Vienna-based technology company is a global provider of communication and information systems for control centers with safety-critical tasks. Frequentis develops and sells such control center solutions for civil and military air traffic control and air defence as well as for the police, fire department, emergency services, railroads and shipping.

Surprisingly strong figures for 2024 caused the share price to rise sharply from March onwards. Frequentis was able to increase revenue by 12.4 % to EUR 480.3 million and EBIT by 20.5 % to EUR 32.1 million in 2024. With an EBIT margin of 6.7 %, the company also significantly exceeded its target of 6 %. In the previous year, the Austrian company recorded incoming orders of 583.8 million euros, an increase of 15.7 % compared to the previous year. For this year, the company is expecting an increase in revenues of around 10 %.

And, of course, Frequentis is also benefiting from increasing defense spending in Europe. The Viennese company is already working on modernizing the military radar data network for the German Armed Forces. Overall, the military sector is important for the company. “We are seeing continuous growth in the sector,” says CEO Norbert Haslacher. Although hardware comes first and then software in this field of armaments Frequentis comes in. The advantage of business with the military: it is high-margin.

Although the share is not heavily traded on wikifolio.com, it is currently represented in some top wikifolios. These include Special Situations long/short by trader Christian Scheid and Spezialwerte by Thomas Dittmer.

Taking Profit with Nvidia

# Name Performance 7 days
1 Apple 5,77%
2 Intel 5,64%
3 Nvidia 9,50%
4 Infineon 13,02%
5 Bitcoin Group 9,05%

Tech stocks recovered on Wall Street last trading week. Nvidia gained 9.5 % and Apple 5.8 %. Some wikifolio traders reduced their positions during the recovery. For example, Nvidia shares were traded 68 times yesterday - with a sell ratio of 56 %. While Apple is currently not represented in Jakob Holub's wikifolio Tech-Growth-Innovation, chip manufacturer Nvidia currently makes up 6% of the portfolio. Holub has topped up. Referring to the losses in tech stocks in the wake of President Donald Trump's tariff policy, he comments on the situation as follows: "Nvidia has lost significant ground in the course of the correction. In my opinion, however, this will only be short-lived. The company is growing at least as strongly as other high-flyers such as Palantir, but is valued much more favorably. As I expect a strong recovery after the upcoming figures, I have recently increased the position again."

Jumping the Ship with Barrick Gold

# Name Performance 7 days
1 Barrick Gold -5,77%
2 Rheinmetall -5,75%
3 MP Materials -6,52%
4 Eutelsat Communications -6,41%
5 UnitedHealth Group -7,52%

The price of gold has experienced an impressive rally. Within a year, the precious metal has risen in price by over 40 % and briefly reached a nominal and real all-time high of USD 3,500. Recently, however, there has been profit-taking - especially as the “safe haven” has lost some of its breeding ground after Trump softened his tone in the tariff dispute with China. The price therefore fell slightly over the week.

Gold miners should actually be benefiting from the rise in the gold price, but this is not the case in the current rally. Over the year, the industry giant Barrick Gold, for example, has gained just 11 %. On a weekly basis, the share is down 7 %, slightly more than the gold price itself.

Barrick Gold is currently facing massive challenges in Mali. The authorities in Mali have not only closed the company's local offices, but have also stopped gold exports from the Loulo-Gounkoto complex since November 2024. This is due to claims amounting to around 500 million US dollars for allegedly unpaid taxes and dividends from 2020 to 2022. Gold stocks have also been confiscated and local employees have even been arrested.

At the same time, Barrick is pushing ahead with its portfolio restructuring: the company recently announced the sale of its 50 % stake in the Donlin Gold Project in Alaska for one billion US dollars. According to media reports, the company is also apparently looking for buyers for its Hemlo mine in Ontario - the group's last remaining mine in Canada. The Hemlo mine contributed around 3.5 % to total production last year. A sale would underpin the strategy of concentrating on more profitable core businesses.

The Barrick Gold share is currently represented in 392 investable wikifolios, including the top wikifolios UMBRELLA, Quality Values and Thomas Dellmann's wikifolio Rohstoffwerte.
